PANAJI: The three-day Global Expo India conference kicked off on Tuesday with industry representatives from across the country coming together to discuss ways to promote exports, foreign direct investment and the potential for manufacturing units in Goa. The event, which was to be attended by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, also saw the launch of the Goa chapter of the Global Expo. Global Expo India is affiliated with the India Trade Promotion Organisation, a unit of the Trade Department of the Centre. “Goa has huge potential for exports, foreign direct investment and manufacturing,” said Global Expo India Managing Director Bhaskar Dastidar. “Goa has not appeared on the world map in terms of exports and FDI. It is mainly known for tourism.” Global Expo India claims to focus on export development through events and conferences, and the Goa chapter was launched to promote Goa exports. “Although it is a very literate state, Goa is not known for its high-end software and hardware. It is an area with great potential,” Dastidar said. During the three-day event, countries like Spain, Ecuador, El Salvador, Colombia, Ethiopia, Uganda and Mauritius will partner with Goa for investment and trade in the technology space, logistics, start-ups, research and development, agro and marine food processing, tourism and related businesses, education and entertainment sectors.
