Marina Curve: Dover Western Docks will finally welcome boats as temporary ‘trial period’ begins

A marina in Dover will finally be able to accommodate boats after the start of a temporary trial period this summer. Dover Western Docks Revival Scheme has been running since 2017, but the £250million project has faced a major problem.

The new marina has had no boats as the tidal currents mean it is too dangerous for them to moor there. In 2020, KentLive learned that the issues arose as a result of inaccurate tidal modeling produced prior to development.

However, boats will now be allowed to dock in the new marina for the very first time. Although not a permanent move until the outer wave wall is complete, berth holders will be able to try out the marina during the summer months.

Port of Dover Marina Manager Chris Windsor said. “We are delighted to begin a temporary trial period of keeping boats in the new marina. appetite of berth holders to try out the New Marina.

“This won’t be a permanent move until the exterior wave wall has been installed and tested to ensure year-round comfort, but we’re delighted that berth-holders can take advantage of the amenities during summer months. Together with local residents, they will be able to soak up the improved atmosphere of the curve and get a sense of what the neighborhood will look like once the transition is complete.”

Dover Western Docks Revival is to transform the waterfront with a new pier and marina curve

It comes as the Port of Dover announced a range of amenities coming to the Marina Curve this summer. The new waterfront development will host entertainment events, activities and food and drink stalls serving local produce.

Big Pan Foods will serve South African street food to locals, while Breakwater Brewery will also return to the Curve in a brand new seating area. There will also be a permanent stone-baked pizza stand as well as Planet Earth Kitchen – a new addition to the Curve that vegans will love.

Berth holders and locals alike are invited to come every Sunday for various shows against the breathtaking backdrop of the famous White Cliffs and magnificent Dover Castle. You can view the full calendar of local events by clicking here.
