Boats, boats and more boats… The Norbury Canal Festival is back!

Norbury Canal Festival

Shrewsbury and Newport Canals Trust will hold the Norbury Canal Festival at Norbury Junction during the First Bank Holiday in May from 30 April to 2 May 2022.

A spokesperson for the event said: ‘Expect boats, boats and more boats which will be moored along approximately a mile of Shropshire’s Union Canal selling food, gifts, arts, crafts and more.

“Expect street food and activities, entertainment, boat trips and exhibits on the work of restoring the Shrewsbury and Newport canals.

“There will be entertainment for children in the Junction Inn garden, including a bouncy castle, face painting and more. Sunday at 2 p.m. there will be the traditional church service on Norbury Wharf.”

A pair of historic boats named Bainton and Berkhampstead, which are being restored, will be on display for visitors to see and talk to the volunteers carrying out this important work.

The Junction Inn and Norbury Wharf Ltd will once again be supporting the event with food and drink, a barge trip or a longer cruise on the 42-berth Shropshire Star where you can eat and drink on board.

Both companies will have live music on Saturday and Sunday afternoons and evenings.

Parking is free and adjacent to the canal.

It will be a great family day out and you will help restore our local canal network from Norbury Junction to Shrewsbury.

The event is free and opens at 10 a.m. daily until 4 p.m. and can be found using the postcode ST20 0PN.
