Arena River Cruises’ new flagship, the MS Arenawas officially renamed with an onboard ceremony and the appointment of gardening expert Helen Yemm as the ship’s patron.
Delayed from 2020 due to the pandemic, the name change ceremony took place on Dutch waterways and was part of a cruise accompanied by Helen Yemm which also included a chance for guests to experience the exhibition horticultural Floriade once a decade.
The event, which follows the ship’s launch in April, was attended by 120 guests, including representatives of the Arena Travel team, passengers and industry colleagues.
Helen Yemm wrote the “Tricky Problems” page in the Telegraph for 20 years and has contributed to several BBC gardening shows. A self-taught gardener who now gives talks and occasionally opens her own garden to small groups, Yemm has also written a number of books on gardening, the latest being Gardening in pajamas.
Yemm is a regular face of Arena Travel’s garden-themed tour programme, which includes European river cruises as well as rail holidays in the UK and overseas.
Managing Director Steve Goodenough said: “Postponing our launch for two years due to the pandemic was frustrating, but we are delighted to have had Helen on board with us last week for a special Floriade cruise and change of ceremony. name. In May, Arena River Cruises launched its 2023 cruise portfolio aboard the four-star MS Arenawith early bird rates available on all bookings made by June 30.
