TUI River Cruises will finally resume travel this week after months of restrictions linked to the pandemic.

It will launch on August 15 when TUI Maya sets sail in Germany, followed by a trip on the Rhine the following week.

However, due to lingering doubts surrounding any further travel restrictions imposed, the tour operator will reduce the size of its river cruise fleet for its summer program.

The UK’s largest tour operator said: “Due to the continuing uncertainty surrounding travel, we have made the difficult decision to temporarily downsize our fleet and TUI Skyla will no longer be sailing this summer.

“All affected customers will be contacted to discuss their options, including switching to another navigation in winter 2021 or 2022 or a full refund. We would like to thank our customers for their understanding at this time.”

TUI has added three new Christmas market crossings departing from the new embarkation port of Wiesbaden in Germany.

Festive flavors, Winter Wonderlands and Christmas on the Rhine are the highlights of its winter program, which will also offer Christmas Day and New Year’s crossings from Wiesbaden.

The Rhine Christmas Celebrations are a seven-night itinerary where cruise passengers will spend Christmas Day in Düsseldorf as well as stop in German cities such as Cologne and Mainz.
